General Information
The Office provides a link between our partner’s European objectives and the institutions of the European Union, as well as other interest groups and regional networks based in Brussels. We provide information and intelligence that is rapidly delivered, reliable and relevant to our partners. We have the expertise to cut through cant and jargon and navigate partners through the complex policy environment in Brussels. We can get to the heart of often complex questions and explain simply and clearly why new developments are of importance to Greater Manchester’s objectives.
The Office aims to promote the interests of Greater Manchester : its needs, priorities and achievements. We ensure that partners make full and effective use of the Brussels Office’s services and help partners to identify priorities and develop strategies.
The Office provides support to all Greater Manchester Commissions on European issues. Currently, our main focus is on : Urban Congestion/Public Transport, Urban Policy and Social Inclusion, Waste Management/Disposal and the wider Environment and Aviation. We also keep a watching brief on Research; Enterprise issues; external opportunities (outside the EU, but promoted under the EU); ICT; Culture; Education; Public Procurement and State Aids.
