Local Enterprise Partnership Update
Tuesday 30th November 2010
The Government approved AGMA’s proposal for a business-led Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and officially encouraged Greater Manchester to establish the Partnership.
LEPs are designed to support business and local authorities to grow the local private sector, tackle major barriers to growth and develop shared strategies for the local economy to increase job creation.
AGMA is now in the process of forming a Shadow LEP, to be Chaired by John Early, Chair of Greater Manchester’s Business Leadership Council.
The Shadow LEP will oversee the establishment of the full LEP and create an immediate focus for AGMA and business to develop and shape in detail the LEP’s functions and oversee the implementation of delivery arrangements.
The LEP will build on AGMA’s track record of proven success in developing partnership arrangements with business to continue to create the right conditions for continued economic growth in Manchester.
Over the next few months there will be an open recruitment process before the permanent LEP becomes operational next April. Details of this process will be announced shortly.
